See i personally prefer his backup vocals more so than his lone singing. I do find it surprising that he was as good as he was at improvising being someone who, at least at the beginning, wanted little to do with improv. The jury is still out for me when it comes to the deads keyboardists. They all certainly brought their own unique style to the band and had big impacts on the sound. The transition in 71 with the addition of keith is likely an even greater change than that brought with brent in 79.
